We have now done three of the five Arts Out West gigs on our world tour of west Cumbria. We started out at Culterham Hall in Mawbray, way up in the north west of the county, close to the Solway Firth. A really good venue and a full hall with some very kindly folk who even shared their extra portions of fish and chips with the greedier members of the band! A good reception from the crowd, who demanded a lively encore!
Two weeks ago we headed towards the south west to The Hill Village Hall, near Millom. A very cosy setting, with a wood-burning stove and the front row of the audience looking very comfy on a range of sofas! Thanks to the organisers for taking such good care of us with food and cups of tea. The gig went well and we really enjoyed ourselves.
Getting into our stride by last night’s gig at Beckermet Reading Rooms, a lovely wee venue and we were made to feel relaxed and welcome by Simon and family, who provided great food, cups of tea and real ale. Thanks guys. One of the audience even donated his raffle prize of a bottle of wine to Shirl, our lovely sound engineer! We were absolutely overwhelmed by all the positive comments at the end of the night – e.g. “Your drumming is superb, Dave!” and “I have seen Dave Swarbrick and Ali Bain and you are better than them, Rachel” Wow! Praise indeed. Many thanks to all of those who came along to clap and dance.
We are now looking forward to our next Arts Out West outing to Gilcrux on 10th November.
